WooCommerce migration

WooCommerce Migration for Stores That Want Full Control

Move your store to WooCommerce from Shopify, Wix, Squarespace or an older platform. Your products, customers and Google rankings are planned for before anything changes.

Digital Fold handles WooCommerce migrations for businesses that want more control over their online store. When you migrate to WooCommerce with us, we move your products, customers, orders and content onto WordPress and WooCommerce, rebuild the storefront and redirect every old URL. You own the site, the data and the hosting, with no platform rules on what you can build.

The data

What we move across

Products, variations and stock

SKUs, attributes, images and pricing rules included.

Categories and tags

Rebuilt as WooCommerce product categories, with filtering where you need it.

Customer accounts

Customer details and marketing consent. As with any platform move, passwords can't be carried across, so customers are invited to set a new one.

Orders

Order history brought across for reporting, returns and customer service.

Pages, blog and media

Your content and images moved into WordPress, where it's easy to keep growing.

Redirects and SEO data

Titles, descriptions and a redirect for every old URL.

The problem

Why businesses move to WooCommerce

Monthly platform fees and app subscriptions add up as a store grows. Because Shopify Payments isn't available in South Africa, Shopify also adds its own transaction fee on top of your payment gateway's fees. Some businesses need deeper integrations with an ERP or accounting system than a hosted platform allows. Others want their store and a content-heavy website in one place, or simply want to own their data outright. WooCommerce runs on WordPress, so you can build almost anything, connect almost anything and host it wherever suits you.

Shopify to WooCommerce, Wix to WooCommerce and more

Moving from Shopify usually means exporting products, customers and orders, then mapping Shopify's metafields and app data to their WooCommerce equivalents. Moving from Wix or Squarespace means a full storefront rebuild, since their designs can't be exported. We've also moved large websites onto WordPress from platforms such as Webflow, so we know how to keep a lot of content intact on the way across.

Planned so you keep trading and ranking

We build and test the new store on a staging site while your current store keeps selling. Before launch we map every old URL to its new WooCommerce address, carry over metadata and set up the redirects. On launch day we import any final orders, switch the domain, then check Google Search Console and place test orders straight away. We also set up hosting, caching and backups properly, because a WooCommerce store is only as reliable as the server it runs on.

FAQs

WooCommerce migration FAQs

Why move from Shopify to WooCommerce?
Mainly for control and cost. You avoid platform transaction fees and stacked app subscriptions, you own your data and hosting, and you can build custom integrations without platform limits. The trade-off is that you need reliable hosting and maintenance, which we can provide.
Will a WooCommerce migration hurt our SEO?
Handled properly, the impact is small and short-lived. We redirect every old URL and carry across titles and descriptions, and WordPress gives you more control over SEO once you've moved.
Can you migrate our customers and orders?
Yes. Customers, orders and products can all be moved. Passwords can't be transferred on any platform, so customers set a new one the first time they log in.
Can we move from Wix to WordPress and WooCommerce?
Yes. Products and content are transferred and the store is rebuilt on WordPress, since Wix designs can't be exported.
Do we need our own hosting?
Yes. WooCommerce runs on hosting you control. We recommend a setup that suits your traffic and can manage it for you.
Will our store go offline during the move?
No. Your current store keeps trading until we switch the domain, and final orders are imported as part of the switch.
Which payment gateways work with WooCommerce in South Africa?
WooCommerce works with local gateways such as PayFast, Yoco, Peach Payments and Paystack, as well as international ones.
